ICT Training & Staff Development

Gateway can provide an extensive range of staff training, covering all aspects of guidance software, such as PlanIT Plus and use of the Internet. Gateway is Scotland’s only accredited Universities and Colleges Admissions Service web-based application system (ucasapply) training provider.

All courses are delivered locally, using your workstations to give maximum hands-on training to participants. Support and training materials are provided for each course.

STAFF DEVELOPMENT COURSES


UCAS - apply

UCAS apply training takes the form of a one-day course which will allow delegates to experience, first-hand, the entire process of online application, from the completion of an application form to the process of checking progress of forms and adding a reference. The setting-up procedure to administer students' applications is essential to apply and forms a significant part of the day's programme.
  • Approved Centre Event Course fee is £140 per person plus VAT and includes all materials and refreshments.
  • Requested Centre Event Training can be conducted on your own premises provided the necessary accomodation is available. A set fee of £950 plus VAT is charged for a full-day training programme.

Introduction to Gateway – Computer Assisted Guidance

This is a half-day course covering websites and software which can be applied within a careers education and guidance context (support of Key Stages)

By the end of the course delegates will be:

  • aware of the range of information held on PlanIT Plus
  • able to make effective use of the menu options, including the
  • Adviser Zone and the Portfolio
  • aware of the web links built into PlanIT Plus and how to access them and of other relevant websites for PSE and Guidance
  • aware of the support materials available for staff and students
  • aware of the practical ways of using the programs with students

Using the Internet within Careers Education and Guidance

This is a half-day course covering the practical applications of the Internet using careers education and guidance as the context. The main purpose of the course is to develop skills in accessing and using the Internet.

Content

This course provides an introduction to the Internet, and an opportunity to develop skills in accessing and using it. It includes finding websites by using addresses, using favourites, using links and search engines. Practical exercises will be used throughout the course.
By the end of the course delegates will be:

  • able to find sites on the Internet by using URLs and favourites,
  • aware of how websites can be used as a source of guidance and careers information for staff and students
  • able to create and organise favourites, browse and use search engines and portals effectively
  • be aware of the quality issues surrounding websites

Courses will be tailored to cater for individual needs.

Costs: £150 for a half day and £300 for a full day, for up to 10 trainees at a time, excluding VAT.
